FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is a Health Coach?

A Health Coach is someone who teaches you how to implement healthy behaviors through lifestyle change. The exciting thing about working with a health coach is that they don’t zero in on any single area of health but rather take a more wholistic approach and work to improve multiple areas of health simultaneously. The result is a more balanced approach to improve health with long-term success.

2. What’s different about Health Coaching versus Personal Training?

Personal Trainers focus on programming specific exercise programs for their clients while health coaches look at additional areas of health outside of exercise alone. These may include, but are not limited to, habit development, time management, sleep quality, eating habits and stress management. Many health coaches may also be personal trainers as well, allowing them to prescribe exercise as part of their health plan.

3. How is Health Coaching different from visiting with a Nurse Practitioner or a Doctor?

Health coaches are not medical professionals but rather fall under the umbrella of allied health professionals. This means that health coaches cannot give medical advice or provide clients with diagnoses. Rather, health coaches can support the development of healthy habits which may in-turn have a positive benefit for the client’s health.

4. What aspects of health do Health Coaches address?

Depending on the needs of the client, a health coach can help provide guidance and education surrounding multiple areas that contribute to health. Stress management, exercise, diet and sleep are all common areas that a health coach can assist clients in improving.

5. How much does Health Coaching cost?

Depending on what program is selected and how much support the client may need, health coaching can range from $75.00 to $150.00.

6. What’s different about Lauren Bauer Health Coaching?

I pride myself on providing personalized health and fitness plans rather than generic programs that do not consider the individual. Not only are the plans personalized but constantly evolving with the client so that they will always be appropriately challenged in all seasons of life. I also believe in creating a plan that is a collaborative effort so that the client is empowered to make decisions regarding their health and fitness. I do this by equipping my clients with the skills and tools needed to live a healthy lifestyle instead of just telling them what to do. Additionally, I utilize multi-modal support via text, e-mail, and phone/video calls to provide ample options for successful communication throughout the process.

7. Do I need to have experience with health and fitness to join?

No prior experience is necessary in health or fitness to begin health coaching. I meet my clients where they are at, providing the appropriate starting point and progression for each individualized health plan.

8. What kind of results can I expect from Health Coaching?

Implementing new habits and lifestyle change will take time. You will be progressed at a pace appropriate for you, so how quickly you see results is largely up to you! Each week you will take steps to build towards long-term results through accomplishable tasks such as learning to make a healthy meal or completing a workout.

9. What is a typical Health Coaching session like?

The exciting thing about personalized health coaching is that each session can look very different depending on the client’s needs. The focus will always be centered around the client’s specific fitness and health goals that they want to achieve through health coaching. While each session may look a bit different for everyone, they will all likely involve:

  • Education (recipes, tips and tricks, habit building, time management, exercise questions etc)
  • Goal setting (how to set, implement and modify goals each week)
  • Discussion surrounding any struggles during the week and celebration of achievements.

10. Do you give out meal plans?

I do not provide meal plans for my clients for two reasons. First, being that I am a Certified Nutrition Coach and not a Registered Dietitian, my scope of practice limits me from prescribing specific foods to my clients. Rather, I am certified to provide nutritional education and help build healthier eating practices. Second, I do not believe that telling my clients exactly what they should have for each meal is beneficial, as it tends to become too restrictive. I prefer to collaborate with my clients to build a flexible eating pattern that can be sustained long-term for better health.

11. Why do you have two options for health coaching sessions (phone and video) and how do I know which one to choose?

I offer both phone and video session to make health coaching as convenient as possible. You are not committed to one or the other, but rather can select which mode you prefer each session. Video calls are great for situations like needing critique on exercise form or desiring a more “face to face” feel. Phone calls are excellent for on-going check-ins, if you are not near a wifi connection or out of the house and don’t have access to a computer.
